IN THE 1996 DRAFT, A HIGH SCHOOL PHENOM FROM LOWER MERION NAMED KOBE BRYANT WAS THE 13TH OVERALL PICK BY THE CHARLOTTE HORNETS. BUT, THEN TRADED TO THE LAKERS FOR VLADE DIVAC DURING DRAFT NIGHT.

THAT WAS THE START OF KOBE'S ROAD TO WEARING THE PROUD PURPLE AND GOLD JERSEY.

IN THE SUMMER OF 1996, THE WORK TO SUPERSTARDOM STARTED AS KOBE BRYANT PLAYED IN THE 1996 SUMMER LEAGUE FOR THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS ALONG SIDE DEREK FISHER. KOBE PLAYED WITH FLASHES OF BRILLIANCE AS HE PLAYED WITH CONFIDENCE, ATHLETICISM, AND DISPLAYED A LOT OF MATURITY IN HIS GAME AT A VERY YOUNG AGE DURING THE 1996 SUMMER LEAGUE SHOWCASE.

AGAINST CHINA'S NATIONAL TEAM, KOBE DROPPED 22 POINTS AS HE DAZZLED THE CROWD WITH HIS MOVES. KOBE BACK THEN IN THE 1996 SUMMER LEAGUE WORE JERSEY NO.32.
